Wind

Listed here are just a few of the many advantages of clean, renewable wind energy. For more information, please call us or visit the American Wind Energy Association website at www.AWEA.org.

Wind energy is:

Clean, Renewable

Free of sulfur dioxide, carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide, heavy metals, and particulate emissions and hazardous wastes from fossil fuel combustion – wind energy actively defends against global climate change.

Protects Clean Water
Wind power does not contaminate water or require it for cooling or power generation. Wind power allows us to meet our energy needs without polluting or diminishing valuable water resources.

Economical, Safe, Reliable
Highly competitive, cost-effective and safe our wind farms utilize turbines that require minimal maintenance and operating expenses, are proven safe, and operate up to 98 percent of the time.

Compatible with Agriculture
Highly compatible with farms and ranches, a utility-scale wind farm may require about 100 acres per MW of installed capacity but only require 5 percent – or 3 acres – for turbines, access roads and other equipment. So 95 percent of the land remains free for other compatible uses.

A Source for Local Jobs
The U.S. Department of Energy reported that every megawatt of wind energy creates 17 new jobs – so a 150-megawatt MW project could add 2,500 jobs throughout a diverse supply chain of manufacturing, construction, transportation, engineering, operations, maintenance, legal, financing, and many other jobs.

A Source of American Pride
Wind energy contributes to energy independence in America by reducing our reliance on foreign oil, with just 150 MW of wind- generated electricity equals more than 500,000 barrels of imported
