St. Louis – Wind
Capital Group (WCG), one of America’s
fastest-growing independent developers of
wind energy, announced today that it has
sold its 200 megawatt Buffalo Creek Wind
Farm in Franklin County, Iowa, to Interstate
Power and Light Co. (IPL), a subsidiary
of Alliant Energy Corporation.
“The Buffalo Creek Wind Farm represents
a major part of our efforts to bring wind
energy home to families and rural communities
across the Midwest,” said Wind Capital
Group President Tom Carnahan. “In
developing the Buffalo Creek site, we received
tremendous support from the local community
and from Franklin County officials, who
understand the benefits of developing clean,
renewable energy. We are very pleased that
IPL will now oversee the next phase of construction
at Buffalo Creek, and that it will be providing
sustainable, home-grown energy to the people
of Iowa.”
Wind Capital Group initially developed
the construction-ready site, which is located
near the city of Hampton in Franklin County,
Iowa. IPL will complete the construction
of Buffalo Creek and expects the first 100
megawatts of wind-generated electricity
to come on line by 2010. When fully operational,
the Buffalo Creek Wind Farm is expected
to generate as much as 200 megawatts of
electricity and has the potential to power
50,000 homes.
“Our company recognizes the tremendous
environmental benefits of wind generation,”
says Kim Zuhlke, vice president of new energy
resources for Alliant Energy. “We
look forward to developing this wind site
as our company continues to aggressively
seek safe, reliable and environmentally
friendly alternative sources of energy on
behalf of our customers. Wind generation
is central to our company’s ability
to provide a balanced energy supply portfolio.
“I would add that none of this would
be possible without the hard work of Wind
Capital Group to develop this site. With
their forward-looking vision and outreach
to the neighboring communities, it is easy
to see why Wind Capital Group is one of
the fastest growing wind energy developers
in the country.”
“IPL should be commended on its efforts
to meet its customers’ future energy
needs through the development of clean,
renewable energy,” added Carnahan.
“We are very pleased to have had the
opportunity to work with a company that
is as dedicated to wind energy as is IPL.”
