The Osage County Wind Energy Facility Will Bring Jobs, Economic Investment, and Clean Domestic Energy to Oklahoma
SAINT LOUIS – Wind energy developer Wind Capital Group announced today the signing of a power purchase agreement to provide 150 megawatts (MW) of electricity from its Osage County Wind Energy Facility in Oklahoma to Springfield, Missouri-based Associated Electric Cooperative Inc.
"The signing of this power purchase agreement is a major milestone in the development of the Osage County Wind Energy Facility," said Ciaran O'Brien, Wind Capital Group Chief Executive Officer. "With over 350 megawatts in power purchase agreements and an aggressive twelve month build schedule, Wind Capital Group is taking another significant step toward being one of the leading wind developers in the United States."
The Osage County Wind Energy Facility is located west of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, and has a non-contiguous footprint of less than 120 acres. Wind Capital Group will own and operate Osage County Wind.
Over the life of the project, Osage County Wind is expected to provide over $30 million in property tax revenues to Osage County, long-term lease payments to local landowners, and $1.5 million in regional business activity during construction. Additionally, the project will create 250 critical on-site construction jobs and 12-15 permanent positions during operation.
"We are also very pleased to be able to provide electricity to Associated Electric and its consumers," added O'Brien. "We have had the opportunity to work with them on earlier projects, and we know that they will be a great partner moving forward on Osage County Wind."
"This is the fifth project we've worked on with Wind Capital. They continue to bring us projects that make economic sense for co-op consumers who expect reliable, affordable electricity," said Nancy Southworth, Associated Electric Manager of Corporate Communications.
Construction is projected to begin early this fall and the project is expected to come online in June 2012.
