Wind Capital Group opens an office in St. Augustine Florida as its regional development efforts expand
April 24, 2012 – Wind development company Wind Capital Group is announcing the opening of a regional development office in St. Augustine, Florida.  The office will be the headquarters for Wind Capital Group’s Southeastern United States development team, and is expected to expand over time as its wind project pipeline begins to progress to construction and operations.

The news comes on the heels of Wind Capital Group’s recent permitting success for its Sugarland Wind Project in Palm Beach County, Florida.  The 200MW Sugarland project is currently under development in a rural portion of Palm Beach County primarily used for agriculture, namely the growing of sugar cane, just east of Belle Glade, Florida.  On March 22, Wind Capital Group was awarded a Conditional Use Permit, marking a significant milestone in the development of what is likely to be Florida’s first wind power generation project.

Wind Capital Group CEO David Boyce, pointed out that the company is establishing its presence in Florida at a challenging time for the wind industry, “In the face of a slow economy and the soon to expire production tax credit, Wind Capital Group is, like all of our peers, tightening our belt and focusing on the right resource allocation decisions.

“That said, you have to decide whether you are in the wind business or not, and if you’re in, you have simply got to push through the current industry challenges,” added Boyce.  “As we look to deploy resources nationwide, the Southeast is where we continue to see great potential, even in the face of the relatively weak economy.”

The news also follows some recent developments in Wind Capital Group’s ownership structure, as Dublin-based NTR purchased the ownership interests of company founder Tom Carnahan.  According to NTR CEO Michael McNicholas: “NTR’s increased shareholding in Wind Capital Group strengthens our position in the company at a time when it is bringing projects on line and looking forward to a number of exciting prospects. Despite the current uncertainty for the wind industry in the United States, Wind Capital Group is well positioned as a platform for NTR’s renewable activities in the U.S. market.
