LeadershipThe leadership of Wind Capital Group is comprised of seasoned energy industry professionals with decades of collective experience in wind energy.  As the abbreviated biographies illustrate, the team is well versed in all aspects of development, finance, construction and operations of wind projects.


 

David Boyce - Chief Executive Officer

David Boyce has 20 years of experience, with over 15 years of power industry experience, focused primarily on independent power production advancing cleaner technologies into the US marketplace, from gas-fired cogeneration replacing coal to a variety of renewable generation sources with a primary focus on wind.  Prior to his position as CEO, Boyce was responsible for project development, operations, power marketing and turbine procurement strategy. Before joining Wind Capital Group, Boyce held senior roles at Airtricity/E.ON Climate & Renewables where he was focused on tax investments, acquisitions and project finance, and with CoBank, where he established their wind lending practice among other work in the renewable sector. He has also held past positions at SkyGen/Calpine, CTI and Ernst & Young. Boyce holds BS degrees in both finance and accountancy from the University of Illinois and an MBA from the University of Chicago.

Marie Joyce - Chief Financial Officer

Marie Joyce has 20 years of corporate finance, strategy, fundraising, restructuring and financial management experience. She joined Wind Capital’s parent company, NTR plc, in 2004 and during her time with the group has been the Group Commercial Director of NTR, Deputy CFO of NTR, CFO of Tessera Solar International, NTR’s international solar power development business, and the CFO from inception to sale of Irish Broadband, NTR plc’s wireless broadband business. Prior to NTR, Marie was Senior Director of Strategic Planning for the pharmaceutical company Elan Corporation plc, where she played a pivotal role in that company’s $2bn financial restructuring & fundraising program, and was previously an Audit & Corporate Finance Manager at Arthur Andersen. Marie is also currently a Director and Treasurer of the Make a Wish Foundation Ireland.

Marie holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from University College Galway Ireland, a Masters in Accounting from the Smurfit Business School, University College Dublin Ireland, and is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland.

Mike Herfurth - Chief Construction & Operations Officer

Michael Herfurth has more than 23 years of experience in the power generation industry, specifically within the nuclear, coal, natural gas, biomass and wind energy sectors. He is responsible for leading construction, operations and asset management for Wind Capital Group’s growing portfolio. Herfurth previously worked as Director Project Management, Construction & Engineering for Horizon Wind Energy, where he served on multiple wind energy projects totaling approximately 1000MW and $2.0 billion in total project costs. He has also served with Southern Company for 16 years holding numerous leadership roles of increasing responsibility during his tenure. Herfurth has a B.S.E, Mechanical Engineering from Mississippi State University.

George Knapp - General Counsel

With over 30 years of experience in the electric power sector, George Knapp plans and directs all aspect of Wind Capital Group’s legal affairs. Prior to joining Wind Capital Group, Knapp was a Senior Counsel with FPL Energy and a partner in the Washington offices of several major international law firms serving as lead counsel on energy project development, financing, contract negotiations, acquisitions and divestitures, restructurings and asset management in more than 40 states and 40 countries. Before entering private practice, Knapp served as Deputy Assistant General Counsel for Pipeline Rates at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. He is past chair of the American Bar Association's Section of Environment Energy, and Resources and the International Energy Transactions Committee of the Energy Bar Association. He is admitted to practice in California and the District of Columbia. Knapp has a law degree from George Washington University and a B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.
