Buffalo Creek
Wind Capital Group developed the Buffalo Creek Wind Farm site near the city of Hampton in Franklin County, Iowa. In 2007, Wind Capital Group sold the 200-megawatt (MW) construction-ready site to Interstate Power and Light Co. (IPL), a subsidiary of Alliant Energy Corporation. IPL will complete the construction of Buffalo Creek and expects the first 100 MW of wind generated electricity to come online by 2010. When fully operational, the Buffalo Creek Wind Farm is expected to generate as much as 200 (MW) of electricity and will have the potential to power 100,000 homes. The project has since been renamed Whispering Willows Wind Farm - West.
The Buffalo Creek Wind Farm represents a major part of our efforts to bring wind energy home to families and rural communities across the Midwest. In developing the Buffalo Creek Wind Farm site, we received tremendous support from the local community and from Franklin County officials, who understand the benefits of developing clean, renewable energy. Wind Capital Group is very pleased that IPL will now oversee the next phase of construction at Buffalo Creek, and that it will be providing sustainable, homegrown energy to the people of Iowa.
